Who you're working with

The voice behind the story

I’m Jiang Xiaobei, an independent Mandarin narrator based in China. Since 2014, my work has appeared across four CCTV channels, spanning history, nature and culture.

Documentary narration is at the heart of my work. I bring the same attention to pace and detail to brand films, training and audiobooks.

I work independently with CCTV production teams; I am not a CCTV employee. Scripts in Simplified or Traditional Chinese are welcome.

Counting, delivery, revisions & usage

How we count

E-learning: $150 minimum, then $0.15 per character beyond 1,000. Corporate: $200 minimum, then $0.20 per additional character. Final Chinese narration only; punctuation, spaces and stage directions excluded. English and numbers are agreed by spoken length. Time estimates use about 210 characters/minute and are not an extra charge.

Documentary film duration and character limits both apply; exceeding either needs a custom quote. PFH means delivered audio duration, not studio time. Series scope, review window and direction are agreed in advance.

Delivery & revisions

Short scripts (about 5 minutes): 48h. Documentaries: 2–3 working days up to 20 minutes; 3–5 up to 40. Books and series: agreed schedule. Delivery timing starts once the advance has cleared and the final script is approved. Rush 24h: +50%, short scripts only.

My recording errors: corrected free. Small client script changes (up to one finished minute or a few lines): two rounds included. Further changes, rewrites or a new direction are quoted before recording.

Usage licence

Internal and owned-channel use is included for 12 months unless agreed otherwise. Paid advertising, broadcast, distribution and third-party platforms are quoted separately by media, territory, term, versions and exclusivity. Commercial recording and usage fees are separate.

Audio scope

Edited, checked dry voice. MP3 on request. Music, mixing, mastering, EQ, compression, noise reduction and loudness normalisation are not included. Translation, picture sync and split files are quoted separately. Each party handles its own taxes; any required withholding must be disclosed before payment and supported by documentation.

Thank you — your brief is on its way.

You'll have a written quote within 24 hours (Monday–Saturday, GMT+8). If I need more information, I’ll follow up by email.

Your email client didn't open? The brief below is ready to send — copy it and paste into a message to [email protected], or just email me the same four details in your own words.

A few practical questions

Do you read Simplified or Traditional Chinese?

Yes. I read both scripts in Standard Mandarin as spoken in mainland China.

Can you adapt an English script into Mandarin?

Adapting a Chinese script so it reads naturally aloud is included. Turning an English script into natural Mandarin is a separate writing service and is quoted before we start — it is not folded into the narration rate.

Can I hear my own script before committing?

Yes. If the project is a good fit, I can record a free 30–60 second sample of your script so you can hear how it sounds.

How do we communicate?

In writing only — the brief form and email. No calls required, which is usually easier across time zones.
